Colt detective special 38 serial numbers
I'd like to find out when it was manufactured. It's a Colt Police Positive Special (.38 spl.) with 4" barrel, fixed sights, blued steel, and wood grips. Serial number is 348xxx. There's a 'T' above that number and a 'z' below it, but I don't think they're part of the serial number. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Note also that the Police Positive 38 (38 on a 38 frame model) was numbered from 1 to 406725 up to 1943 during the same period and the Police Positive .32 (a 32 frame model) had numbers in that range from 1913 to 1943.

Well, I was able to remove the side plate on my 1938 Colt Police Positive 38. Sure enough, the serial number was stamped very clear on the back side of the plate. I will attach a couple of pictures to show the serial number location on the plate.
